Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
The Autobots and Decepticons are back In Michael Bay’s thrilling follow-up to the successful 2007 Transformers movie. Many of the first movie’s stars also return, including Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, and John Turturro. Rainn Wilson joins the cast for this second outing.
The Story of the Transformers 2 Story
The 2008 Writer’s Strike nearly delayed this film, but it may have resulted in a stronger film. The writers completed a short treatment just before the strike started. While the strike continued, Michael Bay personally expanded that treatment to 60 pages, and brought it perfectly in line with his vision of the film. When the strike ended, he and the writers transformed it into a script and rushed into production so it would be complete in time for the 2009 blockbuster season.
On June 24, 2009, we’ll all get to see whether the hard work paid off.
Transformers 2 Plot
Revenge of the Fallen, as the movie is more correctly titled, is set two years after the events of the original Transformers film. Sam Witwicky is now a freshman at Princeton. While attending one of his classes, he starts speaking in gibberish, but that gibberish turns out to be the history of the Transformers. He has been infected by a splinter of the All Spark that was removed from Megatron during the last movie.
Details about the rest of the plot are sketchy, but it focuses on The Fallen, one of the original 13 Transformers charged with overseeing the primal force of entropy. He became fascinated with the chaos side of entropy and was trapped in another realm by the other 12. He created the Decepticons and is Megatron’s leader.
Optimus Prime is also one of the original 13 and wages battle with the Fallen to maintain order in the universe.
New Transforming Cars
Many of the original cast is back. Bumblebee, the Camaro, returns, as does Optimus Prime, the Peterbilt truck. Several new GM vehicles will join the ranks of the Autobots, including Jolt (Chevy Volt), Skids and Mudflap (Chevy Beat and Trax), and Sideswipe (Corvette.)
For the most part, Autobots are played by General Motors vehicles. Decepticons are usually non-branded vehicles, but a few do sneak in, such as the Devastator set, which is comprised of 7 construction vehicles, most of them from Caterpillar.
Major Explosions
As with any good alien invasion movie, several major landmarks will be epically destroyed. This time look for Paris and the Egyptian pyramids to bite it.
